District Membership Information

"The only problem with the Boy Scouts is there aren't enough of them."     —  Will Rogers

Scouts, BSA has now launched as of Feb 1, 2019!

We encourage groups interested in starting up a female troop to review the presentation below and also reach out to their District Executive.  Work closely with your District Executive, ask questions, keep them updated on your progress.

JOIN THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE! - email Alicia (lishsherm@live.com) if you are interested.

The committee works on ways to reach area families and encourage new Scouts to join.  We would love new members and new suggestions!  In 2017 we started bringing a Scout presence to community events such as the Schenectady Summernight, Proctors Kids Broadway Night and the Rotterdam Night Out with great results. Have more ideas?  Come join us!

Let's spread the word about Scouting and invite people to join!

The Mohawk District wants to help you grow your unit and to offer every young person in our community an opportunity to join Scouting. Together we can help them grow into responsible, environmentally conscious, participating citizens and leaders.

Many parents are interested in Scouting today but just don’t know how or where to get their child involved!  We need to get our Scouting message out to the community in as many ways as possible so that we can reach people – providing a presence at school and community events, using social media, and encouraging youth and adults to invite people to a meeting.

How can you help?  Keep your eyes and ears open for community, school and church events.  If they are near your unit, ask if you can set up a recruitment table, perhaps with a free craft or activity.  If they aren’t near your unit or if you aren’t able to attend, let someone on our Membership Committee know and they can try to get a volunteer to staff it.  The Council office has material  to help with  recruitment events – applications, flyers, posters.

Other things to help:

  • Populate your BeAScout pin and check it regularly to see if it needs updating
  • Provide information on your unit meeting times and days.  Packs – provide your Den Leader names, contact info, meeting days & locations.  These things are very helpful for recruiting.
  • Social media – post activities and pictures that your unit did.
  • Unit open events – Hold events.and invite potential members to come!  (Ice cream social, game nights, bonfires, some fun activity that will generate interest)
  • Join the Mohawk District Membership Committee!  We regularly work on ideas for attracting new members at the unit and district level.  We learn from each other and make great new contacts too.
